Vienna Grill

On January 14, 2011, Ivan, Lil Dave and I had a late lunch at Gerry’s Grill in SM mall.

Lil Dave got a salad with bananas and chicken.  Ivan and I shared the oriental tuna sashimi, blue marlin belly, tuna belly and a tuna sisig.  The food was great as usual.  The blue marlin belly was so tender and tasty!

Ivan was looking for portable iPod speakers at the mall.  He couldn’t find anything good.  We shopped for awhile.

We got a taxi back to the hotel.  We used the internet for awhile.  We got ready to head out.

Lil Dave was meeting up with his new friends Rick and Tony.  They’re friends with Nina, Lil Dave’s friend from Boracay.

We got a taxi headed to Vienna Kaffehaus on Juan Luna Avenue at 8:10 pm.   The security guard at the hotel said that it was located downtown.  The taxi driver said he knew where it was located.  But, obviously he didn’t know at all. First, he took us to Ayala.  I guess he thought we just wanted a coffehouse.  We drove towards downtown next.  The driver asked a policeman where Juan Luna was.  He could have asked somebody a long time ago.  The policeman told him where to go.  We were in the downtown are.  The driver stopped the car and asked for directions AGAIN!  We were so fed up that we left the cab and didn’t pay.  He saw us leave, but didn’t say anything.  Probably because he knew that he had no clue how to get there.

Ivan hailed a cab for us.  The driver knew where it was.  He took us to the Juan Luna Avenue.  We couldn’t find the Kaffehaus though.  It was Juan Luna Avenue, but it was the OLD Juan Luna Avenue.  He drove us to the right Juan Luna Avenue.  It was only a few minutes from our hotel.  We arrived at 9:20 pm.  What a waste of an hour and 10 minutes.

We went inside Vienna Kaffehaus.  We were meeting with the couchsurfing group again.  Ivan and I ordered dinner.  I got a tuna sandwich while Ivan got an exotic chicken salad.  Our main meals weren’t that big, so we ordered a mango crepe for dessert.  The mango crepe was cold which is odd because usually the crepe is fresh and hot.

Ivan talked to Benny.  He’s an Irishman who has a great blog called Fluent in 3 Months.  Ivan read about his blog from his couchsurfing profle.  He travels around the world.  He learns a language in 3 months or less.  He knows 8 languages.  Right now, he wants to learn Tagalog in 2 months.  He used to live in Medellin, Columbia.  During our RTW trip, we would read the Go Backpacking blog.  Dave of Gobackpacking lived in Medellin.  Ivan asked if Benny knew Dave.   And he actually knew him and hung out with him.  He said he was going to say hi from us on Twitter.  But, we knew Dave wouldn’t know us.  But, he would be happy to hear from some of his readers.

We chatted with a few people at the kaffehaus.  We wanted to head back early.  Tomorrow, we’d be heading on a booze cruise with the couchsurfing group.  We left at 12:20 am.

We slept early since we had to wake up relatively early.
